Origin
The Coffee is sourced from Cyangugu Province of Rwanda.

It is grown in a mountainous belt along the shores of the highlands’ Lake Kivu which forms the border between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

This geographical region is very dynamic with several active volcanoes. It also provides the last living habitat for thee majestic gentle giants: The Mountain Gorillas.

Soils: rich volcanic soils on picturesque hillsides

Coffee variety
Arabica coffee, mainly Kent and Bourbon varieties.

Growers
In an effort at economic rejuvenation in the post genocide period, the exclusively small scale
growers have been organized in co-operative societies.
SICAF purchase the coffee from Impala and Nyamaseke Districts’ co-operatives in the
region. SICAF has strategic relationship with the co-operatives.
It offers social and agronomic support to the farmers as well as fair prices that cover their production costs.
The farmers are dedicated to their farms producing coffee on as small plots averaging about
100 trees. The most convenient transport for the cherry is by small dugout boats on Lake
Kivu.

Processing
All Gorilla Mountain coffee is carefully prepared using the wet processing method. The
coffee are processed at SICAF’s two washing stations located in the respective co-operative
district.
Technical and environmental standards to produce consistent quality.

Cup Quality
Rwanda fully washed coffee from Rwanda is a top washed Arabica coffee. It’s cup attributes
are fine acidity, medium good body, a clean finish and some mild complex aroma,
sometimes black tea flavour.
